Cool

This little boy loves glasses. So he finally got a pair or his own. It was the first thing he grabbed from his Easter basket. And he looks pretty cute in them. Or cool. :)

Project 52

This week the only pictures I took were from a trip we made to a magical place called Bananas! My little guy's bestest friend in the whole world invited us to Banana's to celebrate his birthday. It was our first time going and it was fun!
Because it mostly involved jumping and sliding--most of the pictures are blurry or filled with red eye...but I loved this picture of playing air hockey with Daddy. Daddy had just as much fun at Bananas. :)

Project 52: At Play

This picture is dark but I love it! I feel like it shows how much he loves to play. He will always come find me when I'm doing something else and say "Mommy, do you want to play ____ with me?" (fill in the blank with horsies/trains/dinosaurs, etc) Or he'll say "Let's play!" and bring me a toy or grab my finger to take me to the toys. What a sweet boy. I love that he wants me to play with him.

Project 52: Growing Up

My little boy is all little boy and not baby at all anymore. It makes me sad that he has to grow up so fast! I think it is cute how he takes his own shoes off now. He uses one foot to step on the back of the other shoe and then does it again and they always end up in this sort of position when he is done. I had to take a picture of it to remember this little moment of cuteness that I love observing. :)

Date

Our date this week was very unexpected but was a lot of fun! Mr. Wonderful rearranged the furniture in our living room so we had space to do Pilates and then after that, he tried to teach me some jujitsu moves "in case I ever get attacked." Um...that made me feel a little scared seeing how I really wouldn't know what to do if that ever happened, but at least now I remember one choke hold which hopefully I will never have to use! It was fun to do something out of the ordinary and I think I actually look forward to him reinforcing the jujitsu another time! :)

Flexible Date Night

This weekend for our weekly date night I had planned on coloring eggs since it was Easter and our little guy is still too young to do that yet. Well Saturday night came...and neither one of us was feeling very well, and the thought of waiting to boil eggs and waiting for the eggs to reach the right shade of dye seemed daunting. So instead we talked while I prepared rolls to eat for breakfast the next day, and then we played Lego Star Wars. Ha! It was pretty relaxed but it was still good. It was nice to be able to be flexible and still enjoy being together even if it wasn't what I had originally planned for almost a month ahead of time!

Project 52: Date 2

Fireproof

This weekend for our date we watched this movie called Fireproof. Have you heard of it? I hadn't. It is about "fireproofing" your marriage. I really liked it, even with the cheesy acting and Southern Baptist overtones. :) It had a really good message and was really sweet. It made me even more grateful for my happy marriage. Real love isn't something you fall into and out of with any passing whim. Love should be uplifting and sometimes you have to choose to love. Marriage is worth fighting for.
This movie made me realize how selfish I am at times and reminded me of a great talk on marriage given by Gordon B. Hinckley. Here is a portion of it:

Why all of these broken homes? What happens to marriages that begin with sincere love and a desire to be loyal and faithful and true one to another?

There is no simple answer. I acknowledge that. But it appears to me that there are some obvious reasons that account for a very high percentage of these problems. I say this out of experience in dealing with such tragedies. I find selfishness to be the root cause of most of it.

I am satisfied that a happy marriage is not so much a matter of romance as it is an anxious concern for the comfort and well-being of one’s companion.

Selfishness so often is the basis of money problems, which are a very serious and real factor affecting the stability of family life. Selfishness is at the root of adultery, the breaking of solemn and sacred covenants to satisfy selfish lust. Selfishness is the antithesis of love. It is a cankering expression of greed. It destroys self-discipline. It obliterates loyalty. It tears up sacred covenants. It afflicts both men and women.

Too many who come to marriage have been coddled and spoiled and somehow led to feel that everything must be precisely right at all times, that life is a series of entertainments, that appetites are to be satisfied without regard to principle. How tragic the consequences of such hollow and unreasonable thinking!

Project 52: Date 1

I've been a slacker with writing about our date nights even though we have been doing them! Since I don't want to take the time to remember them all right now, I'll just start with this one as number 1...even though we've done 3 or 4.
This date only lasted about 45 minutes because it was so late and we were both so tired...but I liked it. I have the "5 Love Languages" book and so we each took the 'find your love language' quiz. Then we compared results and talked about them. We read a little bit from the book about the love language that was the strongest for each of us. If you want to take the quiz, you can find it here. There is a 30 second one, or a 30 question one. The 30 question one only takes 10-15 minutes, and I think it is worth the extra time! I think it is fun to learn more about Mr. Wonderful doing things like this, especially so we can understand better how we try to show love to each other.

Project 52

Project 52: Date Nights logo

A few weeks ago Mr. Wonderful and I got to visit with Elder Sitati from the quorom of the 70 who said something that really stuck with me and impressed me as being very important. He said of marriage “This is the most important project of your whole life now. There is nothing greater.” This really impacted me—I work so hard on other ‘projects’ or feel unfulfilled when I don’t get time to work on them, but what effort do I put each day into my marriage? That is the most important thing. There is nothing greater. He said some other beautiful things, but that is what I wanted to focus on. I have found two other things that have impressed me lately.
First, I really liked this article. I used to read things like this all the time in my major, and I miss it. I really love scientific findings that support marriage.
Second, in keeping with the idea of marriage being a project, I came across Project 52. This is a really fun project that I am excited to start! It is a pledge to date your spouse! This is something I really want to do better at. Project 52 is great because they encourage you to stay home and not spend money, but at the same time make your home a more date-like atmosphere. I think it would be fun to hear what you do for your weekly dates if you want to join!
