DIY Photo Backdrops

LOVED these ideas from Laci Davis on Studio 5! Now if only I could convince my husband we need an SLR camera...

Find a Fun Background

Look for a background that you love. This can be anything from wallpaper, fabric or even your favorite blanket. It's as easy as just taping it up on the wall.

Get Molding

Simply adding molding on the ground is a great way to make your backdrop look like a real studio. It's something you can pick up for under $10 at a home improvement store, and it makes a huge difference.

Use Natural Light

You need to find a space that has great natural light, but is still in the shade. I have use my garage to make my backdrops, but any place that has room and natural light is a great photo spot.

Find Good Flooring

Flooring really gives a finishing touch to your photo backdrop, and there are so many great options out there. You can buy small already cut portions of vinyl flooring at the home improvement store, or you can buy rugs that look like flooring at photography stores.

Brown or Blue?

I love this picture for two reasons. 1. His eyes are OPEN! Everytime I try to take a picture of his big beautiful eyes, he goes back to sleep and I don't get a good picture. I'm still hoping they might be blue...but they'll probably end up brown...what do you think? 2. He has his little "toy" from big brother. Big brother always brings him toys throughout the day, it's pretty funny to see what is left where baby has been sleeping. This time it is the little picture of Harold. Love it!

Sweetest Thing

Catching Up

Last week our internet did not work at all. It was frustrating, but kind of good too because then I didn't spend so much time online. Because of that I didn't get to post my motherhood photo for the week, so this week I'm posting two!




Another sleeping photo. We thought it was so funny that he was falling asleep while eating dinner, and wouldn't let us take his corn. He still wanted to eat it but fell asleep instead.




I am less than two weeks away from baby #2's due date...my husband has been gone since Wednesday but now he's here so this baby can come whenever it wants to! I had a hard time getting a picture of my feet over my huge belly!

Nap Time

This sweet boy has decided the past week and a half that he is done taking naps. Unfortunately his very pregnant mother really needs a nap most days! Being less than a month away from having a baby, we have been getting out the baby things...like the swing. My sweet boy loves to play in it and when momma was taking a nap, he fell asleep in the swing! It was pretty funny. He looks so big and grown up sleeping in the swing! I'm glad another baby is coming to our family soon!

Cool

This little boy loves glasses. So he finally got a pair or his own. It was the first thing he grabbed from his Easter basket. And he looks pretty cute in them. Or cool. :)

I Love to See the Temple

This weekend we went to one of my favorite places in the world--the LDS Temple in Provo Utah.
We don't live close to a Temple anymore, but we talk about the temple a lot. We sing a Primary song about the Temple every night before bed, and we have a picture of the Temple in his bedroom. It made me so happy that when we got there--my sweet son started running towards it! He was so excited to see the Temple! I wish I could have captured a better picture, and a better camera, but at least I have the happy memory!

Seeing things like this gets me so excited for a new baby! I wish it was coming sooner...

Easter

I love this picture. I'm not even exactly sure why--it would be better if this had happened while there were still eggs in the lawn and he was standing there not knowing where to start or something, but at least it shows what we did this past week! It was so fun having an Easter egg hunt with a toddler! He got so excited about the eggs and I got excited about taking pictures of him. :)

Upside down and backwards

Ever since this sweet boy was born he has had a cowlick that makes his hair look like it is growing upside down (it really swirls!) and sideways. I love to play with his hair, and when he was a baby I would move my finger in the pattern of his cowlick. I can never get his hair to look right, but I love his cowlick. :) He has a swirl in the front of his forehead and in the back near his neck. If you look really hard, in this picture you can see the swirl and the side of his forehead where is grows sideways. :) I hope whoever he marries someday way in the future finds his cowlicks as endearing as I do..is that weird?

Project 52: At Play

This picture is dark but I love it! I feel like it shows how much he loves to play. He will always come find me when I'm doing something else and say "Mommy, do you want to play ____ with me?" (fill in the blank with horsies/trains/dinosaurs, etc) Or he'll say "Let's play!" and bring me a toy or grab my finger to take me to the toys. What a sweet boy. I love that he wants me to play with him.

Project 52: Growing Up

My little boy is all little boy and not baby at all anymore. It makes me sad that he has to grow up so fast! I think it is cute how he takes his own shoes off now. He uses one foot to step on the back of the other shoe and then does it again and they always end up in this sort of position when he is done. I had to take a picture of it to remember this little moment of cuteness that I love observing. :)

Favorite Place

I love that this sweet little boy loves to cuddle with us still. This is my favorite place for him to be--only with me instead of with daddy, but I can't really take a picture of us like that. When he snuggles with me like this we are reading books and I love it! Maybe I should try to keep the camera close by so I could snap a picture somehow. :)

Chillax

I thought this was such a funny place to sit, but he looked for so completely comfortable sitting there like this!
Also notice his laundry in the chair that is waiting to be folded still! As soon as I get one load washed there are already more of his clothes that need to be washed...

Project 52

Every morning this cute boy asks for "stars" cereal. Every night for the past few days he always asks for "Lighting McQueen" jammies. This morning he could see a pack of gum (I think?) on the counter and was trying to reach it. Then he was grumpy because I wouldn't give it to him. I thought his grumpy face was cute and snapped a picture. I love, love, love the lighting in this picture.

Rice Drawing

In an attempt to teach letters and numbers, we were tracing them in the rice with his finger. I was surprised how much fun he had! But once I stopped helping him trace, all he wanted to do was pick up the rice and drop it. Ha!

Business Casual

Everytime I put this vest on him, he says "I'm cute!" Maybe you can guess that this used to be one of my favorite outfits for him to wear--he's almost too big to wear it now. This day he also insisted on wearing this tie. You can also see his awesome bedhead. :)

Copy Cat

This little boy loves to copy. It's so funny to me the things he will choose to copy that we do. Like when you rub your eye, or cough. I have no idea why my husband did this, except that he has a picture of him like this from when he was little--but of course, he had a little copy cat and I took this picture. :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

We sure had fun making sugar cookies this past week--and we ate the last two this morning. Perfect timing. My little honey sure had fun making the frosting--and then of course frosting his own cookie. He would frost some, take a bite, frost some more, take another bite, etc. Anytime he thinks I am making anything, he asks to sit on the counter or says "I want to help you!" I sure do love this boy!
